💼 Who Will Be Hiring

The Workforce Partnership, the region's public workforce board, says local employers with open positions will be on hand to meet candidates and fill their pipelines. It has not published an employer roster or a list of specific jobs, and no headcount has been announced. Go in ready to pitch yourself for whatever fits rather than expecting a posted list of openings.

That open-ended format works in your favor if you are flexible. Bring several copies of your resume, walk the whole room, collect business cards and ask each recruiter how they want you to apply afterward. A two-hour window goes fast, so arrive near 11:00 AM rather than in the last half hour.

Free Haircuts, Clothes and Showers On Site

This is the part that sets Ready, Set, Hired! apart. According to the organizers, job seekers can get these services at the event at no cost:

  • Haircuts from Riggins Urban Barber College
  • Interview clothing from San Diego Goodwill and Sharia's Closet
  • Showers from San Diego Rescue Mission

If a fresh cut or a clean shirt has been the thing standing between you and an interview, plan to arrive early so you have time to use them before you meet employers.

📋 Two Free Workshops to Get Ready

The Workforce Partnership has lined up two prep sessions. Both are free, walk-ins are welcome, and advance registration is optional.

  • Resume Workshop: Wednesday, October 28, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at the same Spring Valley library. Optional sign-up
  • Job Interview Workshop (English/Spanish): Tuesday, November 3, 10:00 – 11:30 AM, at the East County Career Center, 151 Van Houten Ave., El Cajon. Optional sign-up
